From Palm Beach to Wynwood: My First Art Exhibit as a South Florida Fashion Photographer
Ranyia C Photography | Serving Palm Beach, Broward & Miami-Dade Counties
Some of the biggest moments in your career don't start with a plan. They start with someone else believing in you before you believe in yourself.
That's exactly how this story began.
How I Landed My First Art Exhibit
A couple of my model friends sent me a link to an open-call art exhibition and said, "You should apply." I remember thinking, "They're sending this to me for a reason, I might as well try." I submitted my application without overthinking it, the way you do when you don't yet know how much something is about to matter.
Weeks later, on Wednesday, April 15th, I got the message: I was in. My first art exhibit, accepted into MONAD's Miami Summer 2026 Photo Exhibition, a global traveling exhibit set against the backdrop of Miami's summer energy: sun-soaked beaches, late-night city moments, movement, culture, and escape.
As a fashion and editorial photographer based in Palm Beach County and working across Broward and Miami-Dade, getting the call to show work rooted in Miami's creative pulse felt like a full-circle moment.
Choosing the Work: Two Photos, Two Different Energies
The exhibit's guidelines were simple: new or old work, as long as it was captured in Miami. Between back-to-back client shoots, I made the call to revisit two images I already loved rather than rush something new.
The first was from a retro vintage editorial shoot in a Miami loft, featuring two models, rich gold tones, bold prints, full drama. The second was quieter: a single model in a simple test shoot, wearing a white tee and an open blue button-down over Calvin Klein underwear and socks, laying back with her feet propped on a yellow couch. Soft, playful, and effortless, with light blue and yellow tones complementing each other perfectly.
Together, they balanced each other exactly the way I wanted a body of work to feel: bold on one side, calm and confident on the other.
The Challenge Nobody Sees: Composite Work Under Pressure
Here's what didn't make it onto the gallery wall as a story: the vintage shoot photo I loved most had been cropped at the feet. I'd always meant to fix it, but never had the time.
I tried AI extension tools first. They didn't hold up; the texture, the lighting, the realism just wasn't there. So I did what a decade of Photoshop experience prepared me for, even though I'd never done true composite work before. I extended the image myself, by hand, matching every texture and shadow until the seam was invisible.
It took four to six hours of focused, detailed work. I wanted it seamless, not "good enough," but undetectable. That's the standard I hold my work to, and it's the same standard I bring to every editorial and brand photography project I take on across South Florida.
Exhibit Night in Wynwood
Walking into the exhibit on July 10th in Wynwood, Miami, with my friends beside me, was surreal. Watching strangers stop in front of my work, really look at it, is a feeling I won't forget.
By the end of the night:
● A group of guys pulled me aside to tell me my work was rich, eye-catching, and beautiful.
● A stranger photographed me on his film camera after telling me how much he admired the piece.
● A fellow photographer, further along in his career than I am, told me I have "the eye" and captured a photo of me too.
● Two staff members separately told me my work stood out.
● A man told me, almost hesitantly, that he hoped I wouldn't take it the wrong way, but the simplicity of my quieter photo was what stood out to him most in the entire exhibit. He said he kept coming back to it, three times, just to look again.
That kind of feedback doesn't just feel good. It confirms something I already knew: simplicity, when done with intention, is just as powerful as drama.
What's Next for Ranyia C Photography
People asked me that night how far I want to take this. The honest answer? Yes, Vogue and Harper's Bazaar are on the vision board, and I'm not shy about saying that.
But what excites me just as much is working with boutique brands, clothing lines, and beauty and skincare businesses ready to bring an editorial, fashion-forward approach to their image. My goal is to help brands across Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade elevate how they show up online, with the same intention, detail, and confidence I bring to every shoot.
This exhibit wasn't just a nice night in Wynwood. It was proof, to myself and to everyone in that room, that I have exactly what it takes.
